There are a number of products that you can use to keep your pet free from fleas, these products range in their effectiveness e.g. over the counter drops and pills, various herbal supplements, various spot on treatments etc.

These types of treatments are usually oil based, and are applied on the skin of the pet. The biggest element used natural flea prevention is garlic, this repels fleas but can be very toxic to some pets if used in large doses.

One way of dealing with a pet affected by fleas is to make the pet to have flea bath or dip, this will have the effect of reducing the symptoms of flea irritation but the most effective way of dealing with a pet infested flea could be by using a product that will immobilize the fleas with a short period of time and then kill them within a few hours. One such product is Advantage, it will certainly kill the fleas within a few hours, then a mild shampoo can be administered on the pet a few days later so as to cleanse off some of the dead fleas. This is usually very effective for dogs.
